How to use the SecureProxy addon properly

Our SecureProxy browser addon provides an encrypted tunnel between the browser and the servers, working like a proxy. There are several problems with browsers that could easily leak the real IP address of users. Below are some essential instructions on how to reduce the risks.

Disable/Block WebRTC

  • In Firefox: type about:config in address bar and toggle media.peerconnection.enabled to false.
  • In Chrome: Get the WebRTC Network Limiter addon > open its Options from Extensions menu > enable Use my proxy server (if present). You can also use the option Prevent WebRTC from leaking local IP addresses in uBlock Origin ad-blocker if you are using it (we highly recommend it).

Test here if it works and doesn't leak your real IP.

Disable Adobe Flash

Preferably, uninstall it completely. However, if you still need Flash on some media streaming sites, it's recommended to allow it only on-demand, with Flashcontrol addon. Note that Flash by-passes the proxy completely, so do not use the speedtest.net Flash-based tests as they will use your direct ISP connection. Use their HTML5 beta.

Disconnect the addon before you close the browser

If you restart the browser with the SecureProxy addon enabled, the browser might ask for authentication. Clicking on Cancel should fix it, however it is recommended to disconnect the addon before you close the browser.

Excluding websites

In Chrome you can access websites directly, by-passing the SecureProxy connection. Use the tab "Exclude websites" to define what websites you want to access directly. More info on the format. Please note that 3rd party elements (e.g. pictures hosted on a CDN) loaded on an excluded website, would still be accessed through the SecureProxy connection.
